KIDabra Kidshow Magic Auction

Folks are scouring their collections for 8 items to bring for sale. Some tweaking is going into effect for this years proceedings to help it operate more efficiently. We'll have that full update for you in the August E-News coming in 2 weeks. In the mean, time please plan on making sure your items are worth $10.00 minimum. Group them if you need to. Bigger illusions and pieces sell sluggishly and for fractions of their value, so think before bring those. Please no boxes of Linking Ring, Genii or Magic magazines. You may sell volumes of The KIDabra Journal, LaughMakers or Supreme's Magigram though. Please remember to keep your items KIDshow and Family appropriate.

KIDabra Journal News

The June/July Issue of The KIDabra Journal is in the mail. With the one and only Chris Capehart on the cover, please enjoy the wonderful interview with him by Skip Way and Bio by David Kaye. Plus all the amazing columnists who make this magazine happen.

The August /September KIDabra Journal:
The Yearbook will debut at KIDabra Conference and attendees will take theirs home. Members not present will receive theirs in the mail in September. The Yearbook features another gorgeous cover designed by illustrator/cartoonist Angel Contreras and it is jampacked with routines, tips and writings from across the KIDabra staff. A Treasure indeed!

A Note from Dean Alan Carnegie about the Journal: "I have been a long time reader of MAGIC and Genii and other magic related magazines. But Mark I have to tell you that the quality of the content in the KIDabra Journal far exceeds every other magazine I've read. I've gone back and read a number of the past issues and am shocked at the MEAT that is in this magazine. I honestly think there is no better magazine for the working professional."

5 Golden Tickets and The Imagination Library

Something very cool will happen at the KIDshow Auction Wednesday night at KIDabra Conference. Terry Evanswood has one of the most interesting houses you could visit. The best way I can describe it is it's kind of like a theme park in a house. You have a chance Wednesday night to bid on one of the 5 tickets and enjoy a Willy Wonkaesque Adventure through the world of Terry with him as your charming host.

It will be an unforgettable highlight for five lucky people one late evening during the conference, however there is more! 100 percent of the sales of the Golden Tickets will go an amazing foundation started in 1996 by Dolly Parton called Imagination Library (dollysimaginationlibrary.com) which provides children in Sevier County (Dolly's birthplace and the county that our conference site resides in) from birth to five years old with a free book each month. It has become so wildly popular that communities across the US and many parts of the world have adopted the program as well. (Recently a community in England launched the library project) Since so many of us as KIDshow performers work in schools and libraries with literacy based programs, this is a perfect charitable match for KIDabra. Also watch the kidabra.org website for a very cool youtube video coming from Terry.

Round 2 Promos on kidabra.org continue! Did you miss the Dynamic Duo last year? Right now on kidabra.org catch a glimpse of the Dynamic Duo on vacation in the Bahamas. (I laughed for 15 minutes the first time I saw the video) Don't forget, from now until the conference, enjoy the special video treats just for you from Scott Francis and David Allen new about every 2 weeks! Now available for immediate viewing; Eight Hysterically Funny Macgyver Magic Promo Videos! Go to kidabra.org scroll down the page to the You Tube Video and watch. Stay tuned for the continuing video adventures of MacGyver Magic as they prepare for their lecture: Round 2 at KIDabra Conference 2008.

The Music Road Hotel Complex hosts KIDabra Conference 2008
For 2008 the Conference return to Pigeon Forge and the Music Road Hotel. Great rooms, on property water parks- pools, indoor and outdoor, water slides, lazy river and more, coupled with an excellent free continental breakfast each morning make for a great whole family treat. Melanie Michaels from Australia and John Reid from Long Island both say the Music Road is like going to a retreat. We'll be housed in both the Music Road Hotel and the Inn with the conference center between. The Inn is only a few steps further from the free standing conference center, the Hotel is best if you have special needs, also half of the rooms at the Hotel overlook the river. If the whole family is coming pick the inn for the most water activities, although no matter which building you're in you have full access. The complex is located at Traffic light 1 in Pigeon Forge in a quiet cul de sac just off the main drag, turn at the Ruby Tuesday's Restaurant. Surrounding it for a mile in every direction are restaurants to please every taste and that huge Wal-Mart in Sevierville is only 4 or 5 minutes drive, not to mention every outlet store known to man. Call Music Road Toll Free at 866-615-6353 and tell them you're with KIDabra. Every room night counts toward our reserved block and makes the conference possible. See more at musicroadhotel.com. Our group is served by Donna in Group Reservations. Her direct number is 865-286-1780, Monday thru Friday. Take a moment and make your reservation today!

Airport Shuttle
If flying into for KIDabra Conference, certainly you could rent a car if you have extra time for sightseeing, however our Official Shuttle from the McGee/Tyson Airport in Knoxville is Rocky Top Tours, with amazingly, the same price as last year, $30.00 one way or $60.00 round trip. As I travel around the US, I find this very reasonable.

Food Availability at the Conference
Restaurants are easily walkable. (Ruby Tuesdays is immediately next to the hotel and Cracker Barrel and a Giant Buffet Reataurant are close, but across the street. Tons of every kind of food are within a mile of the hotel and conference center up and down the strip, remember this is a resort town. The hotel has an excellent free deluxe continental breakfast with your room and the conference center serves lunch and snack items for purchase throughout the day. Refrigerators are also in the sleeping rooms.

The Super Wal-Mart is less than 3 minutes by car (one of the biggest I've ever been in) with a full grocery for stocking your fridge with drinks, fruits and snacks if you want. There is a very inexpensive shuttle that stops every few minutes in the parking lot of the conference center that will take you up and down the strip. (Just be mindful of the fact that it makes lots of stops if you're on a schedule.)

We continue to update kidabra.org. Keep Checking! Don't forget you can read past newsletters at the website to gain the full story of KIDabra! We can't wait to see you next August or at your local KI Chapter meeting!
We continue to update kidabra.com Keep Checking! Don't forget you can read past newsletters at the website to gain the full story of KIDabra! Have you been to the discussion forum lately? With over 5000 posts it is amazing! The depth of subjects there and the valuable info, make it priceless, check it out today at www.kidabra.org/forum/

We can't wait to see you in August or at your local KI Chapter meeting!

A Note for all KI Chapters, current and prospective:

Do invite new folks to attend a couple of times, with no obligations. After those initial visits to become a member of your chapter they must first join KIDabra International, then your chapter. This makes your chapter healthy with a solid foundation. On meeting night, leave egos down the street. I know it's challenging, we're show folk after all. Put members to work with individual assignments each meeting. Ask them to do book reports, mini lectures, prop reviews, brag sessions, marketing minute, techniques of performance, refreshments, etc... Have a great time of fellowshipping, keep video presentations to 10 minutes or less and the business meeting outside of the general meeting. (usually prior to is best.) Be respectful of your pros in attendance, quizzing them about fees and bookings make them feel like hunted animals with vultures hovering overhead and scare them away! (Really! ) Above all keep it fun!

Check with Dennis Michael at Chapter 1 http://www.kidabra1.org to see how they do this meeting after meeting, run much like a mini KIDabra Conference. dennismichael@KIDbra1.org

What if there was a place and a group of people that existed to meet the special needs of folks who perform for kids and families? What if there was a place to motivate you, educate you and point you in the right direction? What if there was a place that helped person after person build successful performance careers? What if all of this really existed? A place so good that your competitors won't tell you they are a member because they want to keep all the resources for themselves. It does! It is KIDabra International!
